Alfie enjoying a healthy treat

We source only the best ingredients to make our biscuits and treats.  Each one is carefully selected to ensure it's suitable and provides the perfect balance between nutrition and taste.

All our biscuits are either naturally low in gluten or completely gluten free and contain no artificial colours or flavours and no added sugar or salt.

Simplicity is key and our recipes consist of just a handful of quality ingredients. So that you know exactly what your pets are eating we have listed these below, together with their main nutritional benefits.

Spelt Flour

Spelt flourAn ancient relative to modern wheat.  Spelt grain or triticum speltum was cultivated by the Romans.  It has a lovely texture and a nutty flavour.  There is a small amount of gluten in spelt but this is fragile and easily digested so is well suited to dogs that are gluten intolerant.  We love working with spelt and have found it to be the perfect alternative to common wheat flour.

Our biscuit flavours which contain spelt flour include: cheese with natural yeast extract, charcoal & aniseed, sesame seed & parsley and gingerbread with festive spices (when available).

Oats

OatsOats are a good source of soluble fibre. Easily digested and beneficial in maintaining a healthy bowel function which helps to combat constipation..  Oats are also useful in supporting the nervous system.  They contain more protein than any other grain so have definitely earned the label of being a 'healthful' or nutritious food.  Oats are a good alternative source of grain for dogs sensitive to wheat. We have also sourced gluten free oats for some of our biscuits.

Our biscuit flavours which contain oats include: peanut butter & banana (we also have a gluten free version), cheese & natural yeast extract, sesame seed & parsley, camomile & malt, apple honey & cinnamon, gingerbread with festive spices (when available).

Rye Flour

Rye flour has a lower gluten content than common wheat flour and contains a higher proportion of soluable fibre. Rye contains high levels of iron, calcium, potassium and zince as well as vitamin E and some B vitamins.

Our biscuit flavours which contain rye flour include: cheese with natural yeast extract, charcoal & aniseed, sesame seed & parsley, camomile & malt and gingerbread with festive spices (when available).

Yoghurt

Yoghurt is a good source of calcium and protein. We use a very low fat natural yoghurt in our recipes, with no artificial ingredients.

Two of our biscuit flavours contain yoghurt: charcoal & aniseed and camomile & malt.

Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoall powder

We bake a very popular charcoal & aniseed flavour dog biscuit which contains a 100% natural activated charcoal powder. This is produced from coconuts and is highly refined and purified to remove harmful substances. It is activated (i.e. heated to high temperatures) to alter the form of the charcoal to produce a lattice or honeycomb structure and increase its surface area, which in turn increases its absorption. Activated charcoal absorbs toxins but not nutrients, minerals or vitamins as these substances are either too large or do not bond with activated charcoal.

Peanut Butter

Peanuts

Dogs love peanut butter and it's also very good for them being high in biotin, which improves the condition of their coat, skin and nails, and vitamin E which helps support their immune system.  It is high in protein and healthy fats.  We use a natural peanut butter made from 100% pure peanuts with no added palm oil, salt or sweeteners, only naturally occurring sugar and absolutely no Xylitol whatsoever!  The peanuts are slow roasted in their skins to retain the maximum nutritional benefit and fibre and then crushed into a delicious smooth or crunchy paste.

Take a look at our peanut butter and banana flavour dog biscuits and the gluten free version.

Banana

We use real bananas in our recipes to provide natural sweetness.  Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose - and are high in fibre.  Bananas give a sustained and substantial boost of energy which is good for working dogs.  They are perhaps best known for their potassium content which is excellent in rebuilding and strengthening muscle tissue, stimulating nerves and brain cells and lowering blood pressure.

We use real bananas in our popular peanut butter dog biscuits and also in the gluten free version.

AppleApple

Apples are a nutritional powerhouse, full of fibre, vitamins A & C and antioxidants. We use the best English Bramley apples we can find to make homemade apple puree for our apple, honey & cinammon flavour dog biscuits, but we don't include the apple seeds are these are poisonous for dogs.

Parsley

Parsley

Parsley is a wonderful herb which helps all the systems in a dog's body without side effects.  It's a natural 'superfood' containing a high source of Chlorophyll, which facilitates the removal of toxins from the body by increasing digestion, strengthening cell and enzyme function and cleansing the blood and organs. We use it in our sesame seed and parsley dog biscuit as a natural doggie breath freshener.

Aniseed

Aniseed

Aniseed is a scent which dogs find irresistible, but also contains properties which help promote digestion, improve appetite and relieve flatulence. What catnip is to cats, aniseed is to dogs and they love this highly fragrant herb.  Hounds are trained to follow the scent of a bag which has been saturated with aniseed oil and dragged across the ground.  In greyhound racing, the artificial hare is scented with aniseed to encourage the dogs to chase it. We use this wonderful herb in our charcoal & aniseed flavour dog biscuit and the result goes without saying, dogs find them irresistible!

Linseed

Linseed or flaxseed as it is also known, is one of the best sources of Omega 3 fatty acids found in nature, even more than is contained in fish oil, and has a whole host of health benefits. Because it comes from a plant source, it is suitable for vegetarian diets. Linseed improves the condition of your dogs' skin and coat and can also help increase vitality and energy.

We use milled linseed (flax) in our charcoal & aniseed and gingerbread with festive spices (when available) flavoured dog biscuits. We add whole golden linseeds to our cheese & natural yeast extract biscuits.

Sesame Seed

Delicious, crunchy sesame seeds are widely considered a 'super seed' for being rich in quality vitamins and minerals. They are high in protein and contain calcium which supports bone and general health. We use the whole seed in our sesame seed & parsley dog biscuits, for maximum benefit, and after they have been slowly baked in our oven, they smell and taste wonderfully nutty.

Sunflower Seed

Sunflower seeds contain many nutrients and are a rich source of Selenium and vitamin E which is essential in maintaining healthy skin, coat and blood circulation.

We love sunflower seeds and use them in our apple honey & cinnamon and camomile & malt flavour dog biscuits.

Natural Yeast Extract

Natural yeast extract is a thick, sticky brown spread with a very distinctive flavour which dogs seems to find very appealing. This is naturally rich in folic acid and has a high vitamin B content which is important to maintain a healthy immune system, nervous system and for maintaining energy levels.  We use a natural yeast extract by Meridian and have chosen this specifically as it contains no added salt, unlike other natural yeast extract brands which do. So not only is this better for your dog, but is a more subtle flavour and we add just enough in our popular cheese & natural yeast extract flavour dog biscuits to get a hint of that delicious rich flavour.

Malt Extract

Malt extract is a sweet treacly syrup which is supposed to ward off colds and winter illnesses. It's a deliciously versatile ingredient which adds a distinctive flavour to baked breads, biscuits and cakes. It's derived from barley grains and is packed with nutrients including vitamin A and riboflavin. This is a key ingredient in our camomile & malt flavour dog biscuits.

HoneyHoney

Honey has been appreciated for hundreds of years for its therapeutic benefits. A rich source of minerals and minerals as well as anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities. The sugar in honey is easily digested and broken down, unlike processed sugar. Honey can help maintain your dog's energy levels and energise older dogs.

We use only the best British honey in our apple honey & cinnamon dog biscuits (of course!) as well as our camomile & malt flavour biscuits.

Pure Cane Molasses

Blackstrap molasses is a thick, dark, sticky by-product of sugar cane production.  Unlike refined sugar, it contains significant amounts of vitamin B6 and is full of iron which is good for the blood.  It is also rich in other minerals including calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and potassium which are beneficial for bone health, muscle health, connective tissues and the nervous system.  We use Blackstrap Molasses from Meridian which are completely pure and organic and contain no additives.

We use pure cane molasses in two of our dog biscuit flavours: peanut butter & banana and gingerbread with festive spices (when available).

The ingredients we use in our recipes provide nutrients and health benefits but they should not be given as a replacement for nutrition because they do not contain sufficient amounts to serve as a nutritional supplement. We use these ingredients because they are healthy for your pets.
